The Trouser Project
The Origins
It's simple really. Tired of mediocre clothing made using slave labour I picked up a sewing machine, learned the basics of sewing and and started creating trousers and shorts while listening to punk music. The resulting camo shorts stood out like a dogs bollocks around town and were good enough for me to wear and occassionaly inflict on friends and family.
A fews years passed and I found local people who knew more about making clothing than I did. Using funds from my little Design company I got patterns made and started on the first run of shorts (which are probably why you're here).
The Idea
Produce small runs of good quality clothing, made locally that will withstand the impact of skating and punk shows while being generally awesome around town. As they sell, the profit goes towards making the next run and next design. If enough people want a specific style we'll keep making it, if not, we'll make enough for us and move on.
If you want to know about the next run of clothing sign up to the newsletter. We realise it's a bit of a weird way to look out for clothing but we already know that in this country, finding decent local clothing is tricky and maybe the business model needs to change. If you're really freaking out but want the shorts, get in touch . I'm in Christchurch, I wear this stuff and anyone of like mind is always welcome.
The Clothing
Camo Shorts
These camo shorts are the first run from The Trouser Project label, designed and made in Christchurch, New Zealand. Unoffically dubbed the Urban Assault Shorts they were designed to
withstand the impact of skating and punk shows while being generally
awesome around town. The first pair off the line was snatched up by the
Designer (who seriously needed some decent pants), the second was
snapped up by a fellow punk. The rest are up for grabs.
Major Features:
- camo and black drill
- black double stitching (to look cool and hold it all together)
- metal cone studs around the legs and pockets (not too many, not too few ... just right)
- large plastic zip (less chance of a jam at critical moments)
- front, back and leg pockets for all your personal storage requirements
Other styles
The camo shorts are expensive to make so we have a bunch of other styles to produce. They will always be fairly punk, often inspired by the urban environment and always produced locally. We also have some of our creations up at CafePress.
Relationship to ZYPE
ZYPE is the little Design business that funds all of this. It started as a web design business, wobbled around a bit and has become a way for us to trade as Designers.
The Legal Bits
Waist Measurement:
Not so much a legal thing but important none-the-less. The sizes are based on waist measurements and unless specified, go up in lots of 40mm. Guys ... be honest about your waist size - we had to be (painful as it was).
Returns policies:
Incorrect Sizes: We do small runs of clothing to keep it sustainable (and interesting). We really are unable to offer replacements or refunds for incorrect sizes so please measure and choose carefully.
Manufacturing faults: Even punks have to obey the giant. Small production means everything gets eyeballed pretty closely but we are human so if you find a major fault that just plain kills the joy, we'll take them back and refund your money. Replacements may be offered if the stock is there.
Have fun,
Josh
